Frequently asked questions
A true Functional Foot Orthotic works to prevent as well as work to correct foot deformities, while also providing the best level of support and alignment in the body. Functional Foot Orthotics are in-shoe devices that control, guide, or limit the motion of joints and muscles in the foot and ankle, and proximally along the closed chain from the leg to lower back to improve gait mechanics, with the end goal being an improvement in overall quality of life.
We should be using our functional foot orthotics anytime we are on our feet and moving. Especially in cases where additional stressors will be placed upon our feet. This can range from long periods of standing and walking to the highest level human performance in our occupations. There is a type of Orthotic for every occupation and lifestyle, and we would be more than happy to find what will work best for you and your needs.
The answer is, Yes. Our Functional Foot Orthotics are designed to be transferable between any pair of shoes that required for our acts of daily living. The demands on our feet may change throughout the course of the day, but we want you to get the most use out of your Orthotic Inserts as possible. It is important that we discuss goals and intended use when we are constructing our Custom Functional Orthotics so we can best fit you for all day use.
The human kinetic chain is the structural alignment which begins at the feet, moving up into our ankles, progressing to the knees, then moving up towards the hips, which in turn affect our back, spine, and progresses all the way up to your neck. Your feet begin this kinetic chain, and work as our base of support or our foundation. In this case of correcting ankle, knee, hip and spine alignment we want to first control any undesirable or abnormal motion of the foot. Finding our ideal base of support will work to limit unwanted pain and functional limitations up this kinetic chain.
Depending on the type of work that you perform everyday we want to be able to allow for enough control of the foot as well as provide the highest level of pain relief for current pain limitations that you may be having and prevent any future injuries or pain from that are acquired over time. If foot pain is a limiting factor at you job, we want you to be able to perform to the best of your ability without having to take into consideration the time that you are spending on your feet.
